Roseanne tells it like it is, at great risk to herself. Targeted Individuals will immediately recognize the various forms ot torture, harassment, surveillance, etc. The world not only ignores the plight of these innocent victims, but ridicules them as well. How can the public allow this to happen to millions (estimate as of a few years ago, 3.8 million) in good conscience? Read some of the inside pages for yourself. One of the best game to novel adaptations I've had the pleasure to read in recent years. Despite being the introductory book of a hopefully great series, Christie does an excellent job of bringing the world of Entrath to life.

We follow the journey of an orphan boy named William. As he travels the world, we meet interesting characters, share in his joys and sorrows, as he falters and picks himself up again, and watch as he learns of his destiny and grows to assume it. It was like reading the Eddings' Belgariad all over again - and that's a great thing.

It's been a while since I've grown to care about the main characters in a novel and that just speaks to how well crafted each of them are - and there's just enough unanswered questions to keep you engaged, for better or worse. Not to mention that the way the world is described lends itself easily to your imagination. There is so much potential for the characters and world to grow even more and I am sincerely looking forward to it.

My only complaint would be that the novel felt a bit rushed. It could've done well with more pages, especially given that there is so much material to introduce readers who are new to the franchise. Granted the story does stand well on its own overall but there are moments where the emotional impact seems to be shunted as you're rushed to the next major event in the story.

If you're looking for a fun new fantasy series to pick-up, this could be it - it's a brand new world to explore with it's own set of traditions and lore. We've also got coyotle (coyote people), great wolves, shin'hare (bunny people), vennen (spider people), necrotic (undead), and then your traditional humans, orcs, and elves. Strangely though, dwarves and perhaps other races/species from the franchise have not been met yet though.

This novel is suitable for young readers and up. It'd definitely be a book I'd recommend to get young'uns into reading. :)

A brilliant welcome to the world of Entrath

Thank you Christie, for bringing Entrath to life. I watched the landscape change, the characters grow and the story got a hold of me and never let go.

As a player of the game on which this book is based, I've had a bit of time to read up on the lore and the book really has a wealth of knowledge to impart that filled many gaps. Meeting characters from the game was a blast too. I get excited by that sort of stuff and being a fan of the game, I gave it 5 stars.

If you're new to the world and don't really have much of a clue, the story itself is reasonably standard fantasy fare with a few tweaks. The pacing of the book is a bit weird at times and feels a little rushed. I hope the next instalment doesn't have this problem. There's so much of great lore to expand on! The main characters are quite well-developed and I found myself getting attached to a couple. Also looking forward to a certain female Necrotic antagonist develop because I think she's pretty kick-ass. There are some great descriptive passages that really give you a good feel for Entrath and the different locales, plus some deep spiritual sequences.

Eagerly awaiting the next book :)

A great fantasy novel.

A pretty good fantasy novel. It's light and easy to follow, as well as entertaining. Each chapter always leaves you wanting to know what's going to happen next, so it's hard to put down once you start reading it. The only thing I think it lacks is some depth in certain aspects of the world and the lore itself, but nothing too serious that might prevent you from enjoying or understanding it. Plus, I think that giving too much detail would contribute to making the reader easily lose track of what's going on, which isn't good either.

Overall I really liked this book and I'd totally recommend it. However I'm not a heavy reader, so I understand if other people don't agree with my review and think differently, since they might have more perspective than me when it comes to this. This is just my personal opinion on the novel.

Interesting Read, Good Advice

'Charisma-Get What the Greats Have Got' is an easy and interesting book to read. Even though the authors are British, they pepper their examples with plenty of American celebrities and historical figures, so the references are pertinent.

What I really liked about the book was that it contained practical advice for improving your own interpersonal skills. Anyone, regardless of their social skill level, will find a way to improve their ability to connect with others in both large and small settings.

The book is organized so you can easily go back and re-read the portions that are most applicable to your personality and communication areas you would like to improve, and their SSF method--Story, Status, and Focus, will wok for anyone on any level.

And in addition to telling you how to better your communication skills, the authors also discuss what NOT to do for effective communication. At times it's easier to spot your own bad habits while trying to establish new ones.

Overall, I felt the book was very helpful for me. Recommended!

Some people like it a lot

The reviews by Brown, McDonald and Bertolo are spot on.
It is entertaining but you won't become knowledgeable in game theory or an expert predictioner from reading it. The book leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't properly explain game theory or how to deal with uncertainty and is mostly about himself with claims that the claims are substantiated, but are not.
If you are only interested in examples and don't want to go deeply into the subject to learn how, maybe this book is for you. Some people like it a lot, and some see its flaws, so check out other reviews.
Essentially (behind the missing explanations) he has parameters for
1. the influence of key players,
2. The relevant importance of those players to the outcome, called salience
3. The probability that that influence and importance will be effective towards or against a particular outcome
4. The rules of the game (eg voting power)
5 Iterations that may occur which will affect who has what changed influence or importance
These have different roles or relevance to different problems and may not all be present in a given situation..

I had to use "Game Theory" for a semester long ...

I had to use "Game Theory" for a semester long paper where I had to write 15 page sections and a presentation every 2 weeks in my "Comparative Politics" class. At the end of the semester when I gave my last presentation, I had to admitt that some of my initial hypotheses were wrong after doing the deep research and applying "Game Theory." BBM's game theory allows a person to prove him or herself wrong by using social science and math. Yet, if the person is able to to accept that the research and game theory has proven his or her initial hypotheses wrong, the person has a 90% chance of being right. BBM's are always entertaining due to his witty sense of humor as well.

Probably the best book I've read so far this year

From putting together what looks like a workable solution to the Israeli-Arab problem to providing us a chapter on what could be a John Grisham legal thriller, Bruce de Mesquita's book gives us a fascinating peek at the techniques that he's used for the CIA and major corporate clients. You should know that the author says that he has a 90% success rate in predicting futures for policy and political issues. But up until now, his methodology, mathematics, and computer programs have been beyond the reach of understanding by the average reader.

What he does and how he does it has been something of a mystery to me until I read this book, and he gives an excellent walk through of his techniques. It helped me focus on how to better hone my predictions about social and political issues, and it can help you too.

The only problems that I had with the book was that not enough attention was given to the ins and outs of his computer runs. Probability and regression analysis are central to his methods, and the average reader could probably benefit by getting a walk through. Also, the last chapter of the book appears to be irrelevant to me, as he does an autopsy on the Roman Empire instead of tackling more gripping current issues.

These shortcomings are small in comparison to what you'll be able to get out of this book. I strongly recommend it.
