Book makes the class content easy to digest, and the formatting is easy to follow. My only reason for 4 stars is the lack of a glossary, an index is fine and dandy, but for vocab studying I find it easier to use a glossary.

It's very modern and easy to understand

I wish I didn't rent this book and just bought it instead! This book looks a little dated, but isn't! It's very modern and easy to understand. There are tips and tricks in it that are easy to follow and case studies that prove these techniques work. I found it very helpful in many ways. The book teaches you how to create a social media marketing plan from scratch. And it shows how to improve your existing one. Very clear, simple language - especially for those that don't know all the technical lingo. Really enjoyed reading through it. Works well for any business model - big corporations or small businesses. But also nonprofits too! My advice? BUY the book. You'll want to reference it again and again.

This book was required for a college class, but I didn't like it at all. It's outdated, hasn't been updated since 2013. I actually spoke to my advisor about my disappointment with the book.

Dr. Alvarez performs child custody evaluations, mediation, child counseling services and adult counseling services for both English speaking and Spanish speaking families. He is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego and attorneys frequently refer their clients to him so that he can prepare them for Family Court Services, child custody evaluation and child custody mediation. “My goal is to prepare you for Family Court Services, Mediation, and Custody Evaluations by helping you to focus on what matters and be the best parent that you can be.” Dr. Lori Love has been specializing in working with children and families of divorce for more than 18 years. She routinely performs child custody evaluations, child custody mediation, and special master assignments. She is on the advisory board of Kid’s Turn and is involved in pioneering the Parent Coordination Program in San Diego County, California. She is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego. Excellent preparation book!

This book is by far the best I have found for preparation for a custody evaluation. The advice was more detailed than I was able to get in lengthy conversations with my lawyers. I found this book after my custody evaluation, but have recommended it to several people who are going through similar experiences. The advice was consistent w/ my experience in going through the evaluation process. Well worth the cost for this relatively thin book. Every page is packed w/ important information. I have also since purchased a second copy to send to my lawyers so they can recommend it to future clients.

Waste of my money

Considering I am pinching every penny, spending $30 on a book was a big decision for me. There was nothing in this book that I could not have and did not find online. This is more of a workbook. Most of the information was common sense. It is all quite vague. Most of the 50 pages are simply areas for you to write in your answers to questions. Although this might help some people out there, it is in no way worth the $30.

I'm not pretending to be an expert in custody mediation, but after reading dozens of shoddily researched books it was a pleasure to stumble upon "Child Custody Evaluation" by two of the eminent practioners of this very specialized field. Thanks to the authors for helping a neophyte like me through the maze of complications and presenting it in such a understandable and complete fashion. Well done!

About the Author

Michael Tetteh was born in the Volta Region of Ghana. His soccer career began early in life, playing for the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana before moving to California. Michael’s professional career began when he signed a generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer and was drafted by the Seattle Sounders, where he played for two years.

Michael founded One Kingdom Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to be a catalyst for a new generation of African leaders with honorable character. Michael’s vision with One Kingdom Foundation is to build a leadership school in his village where low-income kids can discover their gifts and leadership abilities, and make a difference in their world.

Michael became a certified John C. Maxwell leadership coach and speaker who leads businesses and individuals to set smart goals and overcome tremendous odds. Michael’s unique approach to leadership combines body, mind, and spirit to create harmony in the workplace.

Giftocracy is an amazing book and the journey of Michael Tetteh. His struggles and achievements show just how powerful living a life of purpose can be. From a small town in Ghana to play professional soccer against Manchester United, Mr. Tetteh has gone through it all and has ended up stronger and better. Giftocracy doesn't just give readers a glimpse into Micheals life but helps you find a purpose for your own.

It is so easy get caught up in our lives and overlook the areas in which others have contributed to our successes, but Michael highlights the importance others have played in his life, to uplift him, to show him his strengths and to help bring him where he is today. This, paired with unending hard work and tremendous faith have lead to his amazing story of success-- from a village in Ghana to his achieving his dream of playing against Manchester United with the Seattle Sounders at age 22.
Equally, he explains the importance of inspiring others, believing that everyone is "born to lead." A Welcome New Resource on an Important Subject

Predictive modeling has become a hot topic in light of the new era of Big Data that is emerging. It occupies a unique position at the intersection of traditional statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. Practitioners of the art of model-building can benefit from the knowledge base provided by both disciplines. This excellent compendium focuses mainly on the statistical side of the equation. It offers comprehensive coverage of the relevant statistical techniques and can serve as a valuable reference and resource. The editors should be commended for the high quality of both the content and writing maintained throughout.
Each chapter is almost a stand-alone mini-textbook on a particular method, and is introduced by a brief and informative summary. Each method is illustrated with well-developed insurance-related applications and R code for implementing the analyses. The presentation is sometimes at a fairly high mathematical level, but remains firmly moored to practical applications. Although the context is actuarial science, it may well be of interest to a wider audience.
Perhaps the editors can be persuaded to undertake an equally impressive volume devoted to the machine-learning side of predictive modeling. Personally, I would like to see chapters dealing with various popular machine-learning techniques such as CART, Lasso, neural nets, genetic algorithms, KNN etc. Chapters on such supervised learning techniques would complement the excellent chapter by Louise Francis on unsupervised learning in the current volume. In any case, I look forward to the second planned companion volume that will present a wide range of case studies on actual projects.

A useful practitioner's reference not limited to insurance

This book has a wealth of information and, in general, is written with enough of both mathematical rigor and practical worked examples. Being a collection of almost independently written chapters, its exposition style not always internally consistent, however, if you are willing to overlook that and are willing to put some effort into understanding what is being said, you will find it quite useful. Refreshingly, it covers both traditional and Bayesian approach to regression modeling. Even though it is advertised as a reference for insurance professionals, the material covered applies to virtually any area of predictive analytics, including healthcare, market research, reliability and fraud analysis. Given its value to the practitioner, it is definitely a worthy purchase. I am looking forward to Volume II.
