"If Henry Miller were alive today he'd be doing something like this. What I particularly love is that this is erotica that appeals to my mind and spirit as much as my blood and balls. The work is classy, gorgeous, and thoughtful."--Christopher Ryan, NYT Bestselling Author of Sex at Dawn

"Quickies in New York is a delightful original content Tumblr... The blog is a real gem. Bravo!"--Violet Blue, Forbes Web Celeb,
"New York keeps its name for the sexiest city in the world..."--Playboy Espanol

From the Author
This book is the result of seven years of blogging at Quckienewyork.com and is as much a labor of love as of anything else. I've complied all of the stories I've posted from May of 2009 to September of 2015 starting with the oldest stories first.

While I often found myself tempted to change stories, fix things, and generally fiddle, I finally decided to mostly leave the text alone. I wrote each story at a particual time in my life, and while I would now write a different ending, use different words, and even not publish certain things, I think there's some benefit to keeping a record of the blog as it was.

So, while I did proof the document for errors, there are still going to be typos, mistakes, and a few other wibbles and wobbles that pop up due to the nature of blogging. Writing every day (or at least close to it) doesn't offer a lot of time for editing, and blogging is an organic process. Once a story is up it's time to move on, and trying to fix every little thing often makes it difficult to simply keep going.

But with all that in mind, I hope you enjoy what's here. At least for me, there is something satisfying about holding this book in my hand and looking back at the last seven years and all
that they hold.

Thank you picking it up, for supporting me over so many years, and for giving me a space to explore and share my thoughts on love, sex, and relationships as honestly as I could.

I hope you enjoy flipping through the pages.

Yours,
Guy New York

Would make a terrific Valentine's Day present!

Would make a terrific Valentine's Day present!

I have enjoyed watching these stories emerge one at a time, doled out slowly.
The stories have a wide range of feeling, from sweet to hot and always full of longing.
I like to imagine the characters are always around the corner or through the wall, so close in this same NYC.
I'm glad to have them all collected in one huge book, too huge to devour in one sitting.
I'll have to close my eyes and turn to a random page to replicate my usual experience.

All of Guy's work is fantastic and having all of QNY in one collection is brilliant. He has a deft command of erotica and you should probably also pick up a copy for your more... intimate friends as well.

The Nine Laws, by Ivan Throne

THE NINE LAWS is your living manual of power, distilled for you by the man who was forced to build it to survive. The author forged this system over decades of cruel experience. It began with profound trauma in early childhood, shaped itself during long training in the eastern warrior arts, and was polished amidst financial industry competition and family crisis. Master this content, discover the full extent of your capabilities, and deliver yourself to a place that few men ever reach: joyous mastery of your own fate.

This book is not for the uncertain or the timid. THE NINE LAWS is designed for men who are acutely aware that one lifetime is all they have to pursue and achieve their sacred purpose. Far more than a mere self-help book, or a simple collection of advice and ideas, THE NINE LAWS is a gravely serious operating system for success in a dark world.

Read it. Train it. Live it. Survive the dark world with momentous ferocity, and triumph.

IVAN THRONE is the bestselling author of THE NINE LAWS. He is a powerful speaker, business manager and seasoned veteran of the financial industry with over thirty years of study in the classical Japanese military fighting arts. His vivid lessons and ruthless mentoring for the hard and often cruel demands of our pitiless high performance world have helped millions of people across social media deeply connect with radical, authentic success to the joys of partners, lovers, colleagues and clients.

Deep, serious, and powerfully impactful. Not for the feint of heart.
By Bard
As absurd as this may sound to the enlightened modern, Ivan Throne is a Ninja. He is also deaf. He was raised in a silent world and trained in the art of concealment. Where a normal man may have used his loss of hearing as an excuse to fail, Ivan forged it into strength. His oriental martial influence is apparent in his thought patterns. However, the most fascinating thing about him is that despite that influence, he is a devout Christian. However, this is NOT directed at a Christian audience; so do not allow that to dissuade you from reading it. The world is a dark and cruel place. It is also beautiful and kind. He has established nine laws for navigating the darkness in a very serious and powerful way. In fact, it is “The Way.” Not the easy prosperity gospel of the modern churchian, but the stark reality that we live in a fallen world with all that entails. These laws are not ideas that come naturally. They are the result of years of study, training, reflection, and experience. It is not for the faint of heart, weak in character, nor lazy in spirit. If you consider yourself an athlete, a warrior, or a leader, this book is required reading to harness your dark character traits natural to all fallen men into powerful tools to impact reality. This book will gain traction and momentum as it gains exposure. Ivan has tapped into the essence of the warrior priest and warrior king. He is forging a brotherhood of like-minded men, where iron sharpens iron. It is a necessary vision for a chaotic time. This book is a manual. Once you finish it, you will immediately start reading it again. I think he has created something as unique as the man himself. I highly recommend this book. It is essential reading if you desire to navigate the darkness with clarity of purpose, firmness of conviction, and clarity of vision.

The Nine Laws: Timeless and Timely.
By Andrew Terry
I have never heard of Ivan Thrown before I bought this book. Given the cover I would have not even thought twice about buying the book. I usually don’t go for “self-help” books. But, after reading the preface on the publisher’s blog I bought the book within that minute. The back story in the preface is emotional and incredible. If this man can go through what he went through I want to know how he went through it and to see what I can learn from it. The writing is phenomenal. If the author can write the preface this well, the rest of the book is worth reading.

In short, The Nine Laws is a superb work. The beginning is proverbial, much like the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Many I agree with, some I do not. But, given the context of the whole work I now understand where the proverbs come from. The rest of the book is divided into 4 parts that build on each other. Part 1: the Nine Laws. Part 2: the Nine Laws Aligned. Part 3: Training. Part 4: Arena of Blood and War. Part 1 and 2 discuss the laws, what they are, and how they are aligned within our dark world. Part 3 gives you the opportunity to put the aligned laws into practice. Part 4 really digs into our current situation here in the West and calls all men to arms to live the life of the Dark Triad Man. Even though he addressed issues we face today all four parts contain truths for all generations.

This work called The Nine Laws is timeless. One critique to the work, and possible glitch in the timelessness of the work, are the short pop-culture references. For instance, Ivan briefly mentions the current election (2016), and uses the word “selfies”. Without commentary I believe future generations would be lost on these pop-cultural references. Perhaps an explanation of the references would help understand the author’s intent in context. Another critique is the lack of illustrations. I wish the author had included more illustrations throughout the book, especially in Part 3 in the training section. He gave illustrations from his life and history in Part 1, but this dropped off as the book progressed.

I look forward to buying this book in print, and buy my son a copy too. I would even front the money for leather bound, for this book is worth continuous study and implementation. It would be worth it. Perhaps I will meet the author one day and show him my well used copy of his wonderful book. Until then, I am pleased to read this on my Kindle.

Do The Exercises!
By Scott Stine
I’ve read a handful of mindset improvement books. I’ve pulled varying levels of value from all of them. I’m not without skepticism; some of it strikes me as a racket (remember the life coaching fad several years ago?)

The Nine Laws is unique.

I do understand the few mixed to negative reviews of this work though I strongly disagree. Ivan Throne writes in a way that can come across every bit as muscular and severe as his name. At first, I thought this was just a style, and, as a writer myself it was one I appreciated though it took some getting used to. But then I realized my reading experience here wasn’t about style. The thoughts expressed here are those of someone eloquent who nevertheless refuses to condescend to his audience. All of the sentences are of normal length, but I found myself re-reading many of them multiple times because they were so pregnant with concept. That said, the words are only as abstract as they need to be. And the subject we are talking here is the mind vis a vis the universe, so yeah, you do kind of have to settle in.

From one of the exercises: "Condense your words and speech, and therefore condense your intention. Where deliberate and heavy words are used with calm impact, power resonates into fate."

Something else: this book will challenge you. Not like a difficult course of study, but like when you stand in one of those dressing rooms that has two mirrors so you can see yourself from all angles, and you’re naked. It can be a little unpleasant. The introductory chapters have the spirit of calling the reader out, daring them. Turns out this isn’t some macho version of reverse psychology (are you man enough?) The chapters and exercises that follow take a mental and emotional effort to complete with integrity. I bought the Kindle version so I have been writing the exercises out in a notebook and leaving space for return and further development. I highly recommend this. The exercises are no more condescending than the chapters. They are not about filling in blanks and making lists. They are delivered in a way that can translate into an evolving routine and they are deep. I find myself thinking about them and returning to them often.
After I spend some more time on the work I plan to read the chapters again. I can’t imagine the focal energy that went into writing this.

Robert E. Lee: Virginian Soldier, American Citizen, by James I. Robertson Jr.

To some, Robert E. Lee is a beloved general, held in the highest regard. To others, he is one of history's most paradoxical heroes. He fought passionately to defend his homeland and was one of the nation's greatest soldiers, yet his name is often inextricably linked with slavery and secession.
In 1861 Lee was Lincoln's first choice to lead the Union troops in the Civil War. But a strong loyalty to Virginia held Lee back. Instead he chose to become the commanding officer of the Confederacy. Lee had great success in battle by spitting his forces and unleashing suprise attacks. His victory at Chancellorville, where his troops soundly defeated an enemy twice their size, remains the most astonishing.
However, only when he surrendered in 1865 did the nation understand the kind of man Robert E. Lee truly was. He was kind and loving, giving all of himself to a reconciliation between the North and the South. In this meticulously researched biography, James I. Robertson explores the life of one of the most revered -- and misunderstood -- Civil War Generals.

From School Library Journal
Grade 6 Up–A solid portrait of a complex man. The clearly written text describes Lee's birth into an aristocratic family and childhood spent in genteel poverty. Inspired by George Washington, he chose a military career, graduating from West Point. The Mexican War turned him into a hero and gave him insight into what leads to success in battle. Following postings as head of the U.S. Military Academy and on the frontier, he returned home to his Virginia plantation and eventually freed his slaves. As war approached, he declined to lead the Federal forces, instead accepting command of the Army of Virginia. Robertson conveys Lee's war tactics, tracing both his triumphs and failures, and his admirable character and dedication to the cause. Readers will gain a greater understanding not only of his life and contributions but also of the Civil War. Extensive primary-source quotes, black-and-white reproductions, and maps bring the narrative to life. A useful resource for reports, this book will also attract history buffs.–Jane G. Gr. 7-10. This balanced, detailed portrait of Lee puts particular emphasis on his life during the Civil War years but provides plenty of information on his youth, his early military career, and his postwar years at Washington College. The author of Standing Like a Stone Wall (2001) and a professor at Virginia Tech, Robertson comes to the subject with a firm grasp of the social milieu and the politics, strategy, and progress of the Civil War, which he communicates clearly through a narrative text studded with quotations from letters, diaries, and other records as well as books about Lee and his contemporaries. Illustrations include reproductions of period paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, and maps. The book ends with source notes for facts as well as quotes and a bibliography of cited works. Useful for reports and interesting in its own right, this well-researched biography will be a solid addition to library collections. Carolyn Phelan

Review
Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Appomattox. Any good biography of Robert E. Lee will inevitably cover a big slice of the Civil War and recreate one of the most dramatic tales in American history. Lee was the general who "led a revolution against a nation" and failed. Following his excellent Standing like a Stone Wall: The Life of General Thomas J. Jackson (2001), Robertson here offers a solid, if overly reverential, account of Lee, calling him "America's most respected historical figure" next to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln-a questionable thesis. The lively prose style well matches the drama of the subject, and the volume is chock full of maps, archival photographs and illustrations. Formal footnotes and a solid bibliography are provided, though few sources for young readers are offered. Good for Civil War collections. (Nonfiction. 12+) (Kirkus Reviews)

Worth It for Older Readers, Even though Intended for Adolescents
By Eagle Eye
First saw this book on display in the gift shop at Lee's Arlington home overlooking Washington, DC and decided to get it. The reasons for Americans' enduring interest in and respect/affection for Lee are made clear in this book. It's very informative, well-organized and written and worth a look even for older readers. Some have criticized such flattering portraits as hagiography. But our view of history also reflects our modern selves. People of Lee's nobility, sincerity, self-control, and courage are so increasingly rare in our time today that we scarcely believe they existed.

A Solid Biography Written for Younger Readers (12 and up)
By John Matlock
Part of the books for young readers put out by this publisher, this is a fairly short and not filled with complexity. Having said that, this is also a very well researched, very well written biography of General Lee. It is profusely illustrated, particularly the Civil War years which generated a lot of photographs.

All in all, this is an excellent short biography. I recommend it for not only young readers (Grades 6 up) but for anyone wanting a fairly quick biography that captures the essese of the mas as well as books several times this one's size.

A solid intermediate biography of Robert E. Lee for younger readers
By Lawrance Bernabo
There are a couple of interesting things about the cover of this juvenile biography of Robert E. Lee. First, the complete title of the book is "Robert E. Lee: Virginian Solider, American Citizen," and the sub-title James I. Robertson, Jr. picked set up an ironic juxtaposition. Because Lee considered Virginia to be his country, rather than the United States of America, he turned down President Abraham Lincoln's offer to become the commander of the Union armies, choosing instead to side with Virginia and the Confederate cause. Consequently, Lee's fame as a solider was in part because he decided he was more of a Virginian than he was an American. There is the additional irony that at the end of his life, after the Civil War, when he was no longer a soldier, he was not exactly considered an "American citizen" by the North. The painting of Lee that appears on the cover shows him in the dress uniform of a lieutenant of the engineers in the U.S. Army, when he was in his mid-twenties, several decades before he made his fateful decision. So the cover does take a step or two back from the picture we have of Robert E. Lee as the commanding general of the Army of Northern Virginia.

The paradox of Lee is that we consider him to be our greatest military commander even though he was on the losing side of the Civil War. The only other general from the "other" side that I can think of who has anything close to that level of respect would have to be Germany's Erwin Rommell from World War II, whose Afrika Corps had a reputation comparable to that of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. We tend to think of such men as existing independent of the ideologies of the nation's for whom they were fighting. Robertson deals up front with that idea, noting that on the one hand Lee is a beloved general, held in the highest regard to such an extent that he has practically become an American saint, while on the other his name is inextricably linked with the issues of secession and slavery associated with the Southern Confederacy. Robertson's introduction begins by touching on Lee's greatest military triumph at the Battle of Chancellorsville, where he defeated a Union army twice his size by dividing his smaller force in two, but most of the focus is on the Lee legend that exists today.

Eight of the ten chapters in this book focus on Lee during the Civil War: (1) The Making of a Soldier covers how the son of "Light Horse Harry" Lee graduated second in his West Point class of 1829, married Mary Anne Randolph Custis, and served with distinction during the Mexican War in what proves to be the chapter's longest section. (2) Nation Versus Country begins with Lee being appointed superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy and his confirmation in the Episcopal faith, and ends with his wife inheriting the Custis estates in Arlington, his role in the capture of John Brown at Harper's Ferry, and his resignation from the U.S. Army on the eve of the Civil War. (3) Rocky Path to Army Command is one of the most interesting chapters because it reminds us that Lee did not start off the war as a commander, but rather as President Jefferson Davis' confidential military adviser. It was not until June 1862 that Lee was place in command of troops, with low expectations exemplified by his nicknames as "Evacuation Lee" and "Granny Lee."

The Lee that history remembers emerges in the next chapters. (4) Brilliance in the Field shows how Lee bested General George B. McClellan, the overly cautious commander of the Union's Army of the Potomac in the Seven Days' Campaign, and his replacement John Pope at the Second Battle of Manassas (a.k.a. Bull Run, but I go with the belief the winning side gets to name the battle). Robertson underscores the importance of General "Stonewall" Jackson to Lee's successes. (5) The Bloodiest Day is about Lee's first invasion of the North and the Battle of Antietem (a.k.a. Sharpsburg), and the slaughter of Union troops at the Battle of Fredericksburg. (6) Loss of an Arm contrasts Lee's greatest military achievement at the Battle of Chancellorsville with the devastating loss of Jackson. (7) Gettysburg explains Lee's desperate gamble in invading the North a second time, focusing on how he came to order Pickett's Charge, his biggest military mistake.

The next two chapters play out the end of the war, as Lee once again becomes the "King of Spades." (8) Forced on the Defensive looks at how General Ulysses S. Grant forced Lee's army to move backwards to protect Richmond. (9) From Siege to Defeat begins with Lee's entrenchments along the Richmond-Petersburg line and ends with the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia at Appomattox Court House when Lee's starving troops were surrounded by several Union armies. (10) National Symbol is the final chapter, which details what Lee did after the Civil War in becoming the president of what was then Washington College and what is now Washington and Lee University, and covers how his death in 1870 brought on national mourning.

This is a solid intermediate biography of Lee for younger readers, which goes to pains to explain the major battles he fought during the Civil War. The book is illustrated with dozens of black and white etchings and photographs from throughout Lee's life. Robertson also wrote a similar biography, "Standing Like a Stone Wall: The Life of General Thomas J. Jackson," which would certainly provide a nice complement to this volume (Robertson also has written an adult biography of Jackson, "Stonewall Jackson: The Man, the Solider, the Legend").

What Does It Mean to Be White?: Developing White Racial Literacy - Revised Edition (Counterpoints), by Robin DiAngelo

What does it mean to be white in a society that proclaims race meaningless, yet is deeply divided by race? In the face of pervasive racial inequality and segregation, most white people cannot answer that question. In the second edition of this seminal text, Robin DiAngelo reveals the factors that make this question so difficult: mis-education about what racism is; ideologies such as individualism and colorblindness; segregation; and the belief that to be complicit in racism is to be an immoral person. These factors contribute to what she terms white racial illiteracy. Speaking as a white person to other white people, DiAngelo clearly and compellingly takes readers through an analysis of white socialization. Weaving research, analysis, stories, images, and familiar examples, she provides the framework needed to develop white racial literacy. She describes how race shapes the lives of white people, explains what makes racism so hard to see, identifies common white racial patterns, and speaks back to popular narratives that work to deny racism. Written as an accessible overview on white identity from an anti-racist framework, What Does It Mean to Be White? is an invaluable resource for members of diversity and anti-racism programs and study groups, and students of sociology, psychology, education, and other disciplines. This revised edition features two new chapters, including one on DiAngelo’s influential concept of white fragility. Written to be accessible both within and without academia, this revised edition also features discussion questions, an index, and a glossary.

Review
Rarely will one find an analysis of whiteness (and the problems associated with it) that is as comprehensive as this one. From incisive and wide-ranging critiques of how white folks deflect, deny, and evade the topic of racism, and the implications of our own racial identity and position, to an absolutely on-point interrogation of how racism and whiteness influence white teachers-in-training, and thus, the larger educational process, Robin DiAngelo demonstrates the kind of clarity of thought so needed on this important subject. (Tim Wise, Author of White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son and Dear White America: Letter to a New Minority )
This book goes well beyond Diversity Training 101. It is filled with comprehensive knowledge and useful tools for understanding racism and white people s role in it. An invaluable resource for every educator, student, practitioner, and concerned citizen; you will be better prepared to address all forms of oppression after reading this book. (Eddie Moore, Founder of The White Privilege Conference)
With directness, sensitivity, and clarity, Robin DiAngelo leads the reader through a series of challenging and revelatory discussions that have profound implications for teaching and learning in today's classrooms. Her question, What does it mean to be white? , underscores the pressing need for honest dialogue, particularly among white educators, about this tremendously important topic. I hope every teacher has the opportunity to read this book. Both they, and the students they teach, will be the better for it. --Sonia Nieto, Professor Emerita, Language, Literacy, and Culture, School of Education, University of Massachusetts and Author of The Light in Their Eyes: Creating Multicultural Learning Communities )

Necessary read
By KRS
I am only seventy pages in and I can tell that buying this book is going to be a watershed moment in my life. Race is such an uncomfortable topic for white people to talk about. DiAngelo has a way of broaching these conversations in a way that doesn't sugarcoat but also doesn't put her white audience on the defense. My only criticism is that the price is very steep. I am not saying that the book is not worth the cost, just that I feel like the cost of the book makes it inaccessible to many.
