What I like about this book is that it gives a thorough introduction to epidemiology. This subject can be taught in a very difficult and complex manner, and scare everybody away. Bhopal's Concepts of Epidemiology leads the reader through the different themes in a very nice manner; the language is easy to understand, as are the definitions and explanations of concepts and the many useful illustrations. It's a great introducory book for the novice as well as a useful reference book for the seasoned researcher. It firmly embeds epidemiology as an important part of a multidisciplinary and holistic... public health. A highly recommended text

In his preface, Professor Raj Bhopal indicates that the purpose of his book is `to explain and illustrate the key concepts which underpin the science of epidemiology and its applications to research, policy making, health service planning and health promotion'. This he achieves in a remarkably clear and comprehensive fashion. The book is extremely well structured with the first-half systematically leading the reader from introductory concepts of the nature of epidemiology, epidemiological variables and population, through to the all-important issues of variation and the epidemiological approach to cause and effect theory. The book is primarily intended for postgraduate students undertaking beginning courses in epidemiology and it undoubtedly excels in this regard. Each chapter is excellently structured: commencing with clearly defined learning objectives and supported throughout with creative thought-provoking exercises and interesting relevant examples which demonstrate Raj Bhopal's deep interest in social, historical and cultural issues. It would be surprising if this were not to rapidly establish itself as a recommended text for all students with an interest in the field. More than this however, Professor Bhopal has succeeded in creating a text which is straightforward, engaging and extremely interesting and easy to read. As such he has pulled off the difficult task of producing a scientifically rigorous and sound text which is equally enjoyable and accessible to the lay reader. For this he is to be congratulated! His work is highly recommended for postgraduate and undergraduate students, health professionals, health service managers and policy makers. Indeed, for all who have an interest in the vital area of public health.

(b) P84, table 4.4, the statements "Findings may not apply etc" (line 17) and "Practical applications etc" (line 26) should be in the 4th column of table, i.e., under cost/disadvantage.
(c) Acknowledgements: Para. 5, line 2 - strike out the word `many'.

GRANDMA MOSES IN SCRIPT

Enter the imaginative head of a child and relive the enchantment of growing up in the fields and woods of the Adirondacks back in depression days of the 1930’s. The author lovingly recounts her memories of sleeping in the open without shelter, eating the forest fruits when there was no food, freezing for the lack of firewood, and having shoes only for school and church. Despite the penury, she and her brother Bub thrived in the company of friends, relatives, and the community where poverty and pride abounded. Moonshine provided the bulk of the income, and everyone had a hidden still whose yield served to quench the thirst and to drown the hopelessness. In these series of short reminisces, the author recalls with great pleasure the independence of her heroic mother, the kindness of her community. She revels in the memories of her encounters with the traveling bums and the migrating gypsies, her forays into mischief, and her encounters with her neighbors. A great time capsule

Every so often, a book transports you to another place and time, and you feel like your day-to-day life is just an interruption to the "real world" you are living in - in this case, the depression era Adirondacks. The book is written with a simple, innocent perspective that is both endearing, and informative. I really enjoyed the journey Gloria Stubing Rist took me on - just finished reading it today, but I expect to read it over again. If you are a lover of nature, someone who loves Americana, or finds interest in how differently people lived such a short time ago, you will really enjoy this book. I feel a strong urge to drive up to the town of Chillson, and look around - I almost imagine I will see some of the ghosts of the characters in this book walking around!

Great condition; dry read.

Well, I actually had to buy this book for a college course of mine, so the most I can say about it is that: 1) It's informative, 2) It's also EXTREMELY boring, 3) It was in a pretty decent condition from the seller. All in all, as a vocalist this book is a very good reference to your instrument and helps answer any questions you might have.

Excellent Text - Very Technical

This was a required textbook for my Vocal Pedagogy class. I have found it extremely helpful. It is very technical read, though, so don't expect to learn this information by skimming the pages or reading through it one time. Overall, it was a good investment, and a decent resource to refer back to throughout my musical career. It does carry a very high price tag for a textbook of its size.

Well written, even in the unnecessary parts

This book is written well and the finish is good, however certain parts of the book do not need to take up an entire chapter. Definitely a broad overview type of book. Also, the use of certain figures/charts is excessive at times.

I'm actually making it happen thanks to this book!

It has always been a fantasy of mine to create Passive Income. As a single parent, I lose so much precious time through active work that I have resolved to creating Passive Income so that I can be more present to my loved ones and live life with more freedom. This book outlined all those points and gave me the best strategies that I have already put into action and I am seeing money come in!
I just wrote a review on the authors other book about Self-Discipline. These two go hand in hand and I highly recommend purchasing them both.

I found the material to be really useful and definitely different from what I have came across before. The writing style expresses the information in a clear and concise tone, making even the most difficult and complex concepts easy to understand for the average person. I especially admire this book because it doesn't just offer one method for people, it explains a wide variety of passive income related ventures so the content definitely can appeal to a lot more than just one kind of people. I thought that the 'Virtual Real Estate' section was really helpful and I definitely am going to do some more research and try it out, it seems very promising.

About the Author

Dr. Nikiforos T. Laopodis is a Finance and Economics Professor at Fairfield University, U.S. and at the Athens Laboratory of Business Administration at The American College of Greece, Greece. His areas of specialization are international finance and financial econometrics. He has taught at various Universities in the U.S. and in Greece and has been invited to give lectures to Universities and international organizations in Europe. He has published extensively in the fields of finance and financial economics focusing on interest rates, exchange rates, stock markets as well as monetary and fiscal policies. He is a regular member and contributor to professional organizations such as Financial Management Association and Eastern Finance Association.
