Do Not Buy, Save Your Money

Don't waste your money. Use it instead for a good tax accountant that has the proper licensing for dealing with the IRS for you that comes highly recommended or a tax lawyer(which is more expensive). The IRS agent I've dealt with was arrogant and believed he was/is above the law regardless of what anybody might tell, they pretty much are. They first agent you see face to face has all the power and all the cards. If you piss them off for ANY reason, they can and will make your life a living hell. You ARE guilty until you PROVE yourself innocent, regardless of what the law may state these are the real world facts. The IRS agent said to me: "I wouldn't be here if you were innocent". Thankfully it was the H&R Block tax software that had made multiple mistakes by purposely putting some deductions in 2 or more places which flagged me as double dipping. My excellent tax accountant new EXACTLY where it happened as soon as I told her what tax software I used. If I had followed some of the suggestions in this book I would have been severely screwed. False confidence in dealing with the IRS is a HUGE mistake.

The best book I have found for pure Inventory Mgt:

For my line of work, which is strictly in support of inventory management, in a large organization, this book is the best and most comprehensive reference I have found for inventory management. Other references, such as Chopra's or Shapiro's, offer an excellent survey in the broader topic of supply chain management but do not approach the depth of this text in straight inventory management. For the person working in a large organization, in which supply chain management is broken up across large numbers of people and departments, and for whom inventory management is the main focus, then this is the book for such an individual.
The particular strength of this book lies in chapters 5 - 10 in which a very comprehensive analysis is placed on the topics of reorder quantity (Eoq) and the large array of optimization and inventory control techniques in the realm of re-order point, order-up-to logic etc. This text covers classic Eoq analysis, along with the alternative heuristic methods for items displaying an uneven rate of demand. The approach to setting re-order point rules for slow-selling, as opposed to fast-moving items, receives ample coverage. No other book I have seen covers the issue of slow-moving items as well, which is significant since in industry many items are slow movers.
The authors cover the concepts of "exchange curves" and how one can link inventory control objectives at the item level to an aggregate level. This is a critical concept for the practitioner attempting to reconcile item-level inventory control to aggregate inventory and financial planning objectives.
The forecasting section itself offers substantial treatment of the topic though additional depth, such as with an addtional chapter, would improve this book. Perhaps forecasting will receive greater treatment in a future edition.
Also of value is the overall approach to the topic of inventory control, starting with forecasting, then re-order quantity, and then re-order point rules. Also, there are valuable insights to help the practitioner "draw the line" between a fast-moving item and a slow-moving item and specific direction on the inventory control policies to pursue with both classes of inventory. Relatedly, there is excellent discussion on the rules one can apply to approach inventory management with eiter the normal distribution of demand versus when other distributions of demand may apply for slow-moving items. Books such a Chopra's do not give this critical topic the same level of attention.
Mathematical topics and formulas are presented in a manner which should be accessible and substantial for individuals with a wide degree of quantitative backgrounds. The topics are presented with a good degree of detail, rigorous yet still in well-defined sections. The book's construction supports in-depth study in addition to quick reference. References and citations of other work abound for those who wish to explore a topic further.
The Chopra or Shapiro or Simch-Levi or Factory Physics texts cover the topic of variability pooling, two tier systems, and the "bullwhip effect" more successfully than this book.
I have not used the second section of this book which deals with production planning so I will not speak to the quality of its content in these areas.
If I had to choose one text for an inventory management text it would be this one. Though given a choice I have also supplemented it with addtional texts such as Chopra's, Shapiro's and the "Factory Physics" book.

Great explaination but Need more quantitative analysis

This book is comprehensive and very good for introduction to Inventory mgt and production planning but need more quantitative analysis, for instance, math model or algorithm to solve the problems. If you want the real inventory modeling, please choose Johnson and Montgomery book(ISBN 0471446181). Otherwise, this book is great.

Best book on inventory management

Without any doubt, Silver/Pike/Peterson is the best and most comprehensive book on inventory management. If you are searching for simplistic "management consultant concepts" then buy something else. If you want to learn how realize all these basic concepts take this book. Seriously, what are people exspecting: "too technical" ? Stupid. If you do not have any clue about basic math, why do you wanna go into logistics?

If I should teach somebody on logistics I would gave him or her one of the (thousands) books on simplistic powerpoint-like SCM concepts (if you want read Silver/Pike/Peterson you have to know these concepts beforehand). And when the question arises how to put this into practice, I would give this person the Silver/Pike/Peterson book. In the end, standard concepts are not enough. You need math. And Silver/Pike/Peterson only gives you a brief introduction about the basic math. Thus, alltogether the result will answer the question: how to run operations at the bottom line of the industry. Of course for becoming supply chain champion the book will not offer "the perfect master plan" but Silver/Pike/Peterson will give you the basic knowledge to generate such knowledge.

Good book on valuing stocks

The book is one of a series by Morningstar. This particular describes the various accounting sheets (balance, income, etc.) used. It has two quite worthwhile chapters on economic moats and management quality. This is a good reference for investors trying to determine quality and value in a company.
Some of the accounting sheets printed lightly, and with the small print, are hard to read. The only other recommendation would be to have an index.

This book takes readers to the next level of stock market investing after the previous book, How to Get Started in Stocks. Morningstar's philosophy to stock investing is based on Warren Buffett's teachings - buy great companies that earn high returns on capital, are protected by moats or competitive advantages, and are bought at good prices. This book teaches investors how to find economic moats, analyze financial statements, and value companies to determine if they should be purchased.

This book also has a quiz and worksheet at the end of each chapter. Since the book is written by Morningstar, it references the company throughout the book. Morningstar offers subscription services to individual investors who can get access to analyst reports and opinions of value on individuals companies. This is one of the best books on narrow footprint houses. Page after page of some of the most interesting examples of narrow footprint houses that are not row, or town houses. There are plenty of photos and floor plans to see. A great source for examples of houses for narrow lots, or tiny sites.

"Narrow Houses: New Directions in Efficient Design" by Avi Friedman (Princeton Architectural Press) deal with another kind of situation altogether. The shoebox home. Defining `narrow' as a structure with a street-facing facade of 25 feet or less, Friedman highlights a broad array of solutions for maximizing usable space while creating the necessary flow for the limited environment.

Houses from Amsterdam to Japan (where one pictured home is a mere nine feet wide!) are showcased, many using the latest modern, cutting edge design, but all with a mind towards maximizing use of open space, vertical integration and that ever elusive `flow' to make things seem imminently livable despite the cramped space. Lots of stairways and glass windows and walls are used to open up these spaces, as Friedman cites examples from freestanding structures to rows of tiny fronted townhomes.

Beyond the examples, Friedman explains the reasoning behind the re-emergence of the narrow home movement in terms of environment and economic and social impact as well as the issues to be aware of (footprint, duplexes, yard space, etc.) when dealing with this type of development. As urban areas get more crowded, (though narrow homes are even expanding to suburban and certain rural areas), the issues presented here will become more and more useful to builders everywhere. Reliable, delicious and show-stopping recipes. Luis provides beautiful, easy-to read and easy to follow recipes in his Bake it Great cookbook. I followed Luis on the British Bake Off and his charm shines through just as it did on the show. The cookbook is gorgeous with mouth-watering photos and lovely text. Luis also provides very helpful tips throughout his book on how to achieve the perfect bake, such as where to best place your bake when placing in the oven, or how to perfectly shape a boule of bread. From the photos you might think that the recipes would be complicated, time consuming or overly difficult, but Luis guides you through these recipes to elevate the every-day baker from "ordinary to extraordinary". His passion for baking really comes through in his cookbook. I highly recommend this cookbook for any baker or cook, regardless of whether you are a novice or well experienced. The recipes are incredibly fun and Luis makes beautiful bakes an approachable feat.

Also, you can tell that Luis is a graphic designer because the design of this cookbook is gorgeous!

Healthy recipes for holiday cooking !!

During holidays, I really love to try new recipes, which would be not only delicious but also take shorter time to cook. I am a passionate pressure cooker user as it saves my time and allow me to do other things on parallel, while cooking. This book caught my attention on kindle store due to its colorful relevant cover page as well as its promotional price. Most of the recipes are unique and seem easy to prepare. Instructions are complete and clear. One of the important features is that each recipe comes up with preparation and cooking time, which really match with my cooking time those already I have tried. On the eve of New Year, I tried several items such as Beef Pot Roast with Vegetables, Shrimp fried rice, White Bean Chili Pie and Chocolate Hazelnut Bread Pudding. My guest liked them and also couple of them asked for recipe exchange. Another appreciate feature is that all of the recipes of this cookbook uses healthy and easily available ingredients. I am looking forward to trying more recipes from this eBook.

Never knew a pressure cooker is that useful!

Before purchasing this book, my pressure cooker was just wasting away in my kitchen cupboard. I have always been intimidated to use it. Now, my eyes have been opened to a variety of ways it can be used. I never knew that you can cook salad, soup, rice, or even desserts with a pressure cooker! To top it off, all the recipes in this book are so easy to follow; the ingredients are cheap and easy to find; and most of the recipes take about half an hour to cook. Now I can invite friends over and not worry about what to serve in a short amount of time. I’m so happy I came across this book.

Another great cookbook!!!

Another great book by Phillip Pablo. As I said in another review, I own numerous recipe books by this author. I'm never disappointed when I purchase one. I was happy when I saw a cookbook by the author for pressure cooker recipes. This cookbook contains a lot of easy, quick, and delicious recipes as all the cookbooks by Phillip Pablo does. My favorite in this cookbook is the Steamed mussels.I have had steamed mussels before, but this recipe tops them all. I highly recommend this book along with others by the author. ​
